Shining reviews for 'Oleg Marshev in Recital'

July 29, 2010 6:24 PM

Oleg Marshev's recording of Liszt, Chopin and Scriabin continues to receive shining reviews, despite his release of two more recent CDs. Patrick Lam states that Marshev conveys '[Liszt's] music's descriptive power...splendidly', enhances the melodic flows of Chopin with 'coy diminuendi and teasing rubati' and convincingly 'weaves together [Scriabin's] shimmering colours' to make Oleg Marshev in Recital: Liszt, Chopin and Scriabin 'a delightful disc and a must'.

February 18, 2010 12:16 AM

'5 stars out of five' says the Birmingham Alabama News about VOCES8 in a recent review of their concert with Birmingham Boys Choir on Tuesday 16th February.

'the double quartet was as polished and British as a new pair of patent leather shoes from Harrods's'... with a 'pristine British choral sound'.

'There was virtually no style or technique that the group didn't own outright... Voces8 treated the audience to tight, lush jazz harmonies, rock and jazz drumming, vocalized upright bass (both slapped and plucked) and what added up to a pretty decent music appreciation lecture in between numbers'.
