David Owen Norris
David Owen Norris is one of the most innovative and brilliant pianists of our generation, being an authority and leading performer on early pianos, rare piano concertos (especially those by 20th century English composers), as well as being the pianist of choice for many world-class singers. He has recently performed fortepiano concertos in Toronto and Yale; accompanied David Wilson-Johnson and Sir John Tomlinson; and received a Gramophone recommendation for his new CD recording of Montague Phillips Piano Concertos with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
As a concerto soloist David Owen Norris was instrumental in the researching and recording of Elgar's Piano Concerto (realised in 2004 by Robert Walker, recorded on Dutton). This has led to acclaimed new CD releases of works including Richard Arnell's Piano Concerto and Joseph Horowitz's Jazz Concerto. Norris is particularly respected for his commitment to researching and performing a range of English repertoire, including Elgar, Dyson, Quilter and Lambert.

In 2006 David Owen Norris toured The World's First Piano Concertos (some of the earliest repertoire written for solo piano and orchestra by composers including J.C.Bach, C.F.Abel, James Hook, as well as Mozart), playing a Square Piano, alongside Monica Huggett and Sonnerie. The project toured from Gateshead to Barcelona, Bilbao to Shrewsbury, and over to America where American Record Review wrote: 'The extroverted and energetic Norris, winner of the first Gilmore Artists Award, is a deservedly popular draw. First-rate... full of witty intelligence and charm.'
David Owen Norris boasts an extensive discography; notable recordings include numerous Elgar works (the Piano Concerto [Dutton], and Complete Piano Music [Elgar Editions]); The World's First Piano Concertos [Avie]; and Quilter Song Arrangements (with Amanda Pitt, Joanne Thomas, Philip Langridge, and David Wilson-Johnson [Naxos])
David's recent engagements include performances at the City of London Festival, the English Music Festival, Three Choirs Festival, Cheltenham Festival, and the Gilmore Festival in Michigan, USA.
David is Head of Keyboard Studies at Southampton University; he is also an Honorary Fellow of Keble College, Oxford, and an Educational Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
